Who should take a PALS class?

The PALS renewal class should be taken by any previously certified PALS provider. If you have let your certification expire, you can still take this class. There are certain things that decide whether the expired student can absolutely take the PALS recertification class. The previous PALS certification cannot be more than 90 days expired. The student must have also received the most current PALS guidelines at their last PALS class. If the expired PALS provider attends the recertification class and does not pass any portion of the course, there will not be an opportunity for remediation. The expired provider would then be required to take the initial full day PALS class.

Students will refresh their skills in 1 and 2 rescuer infant CPR, 1 and 2 rescuer child CPR, managing respiratory emergencies, establishing IO vascular access, and in working together as a team.

PALS Class in NashvillePrerequisites:

There are no other prerequisites for the PALS class other than having a current PALS provider card.

Each student is required to have a current edition of the American Heart Association PALS manual. If you do not already have the required manual, you can purchase it when you register. You are not required to purchase the manual from CPR Nashville, you may acquire the manual from any source, however the American Heart Association requires that each student have a manual. We also have the ECG/Pharmacology manual available for purchase if you would like to refresh these skills.

It is expected that students attending a PALS refresher class will know how to read cardiac rhythms on the monitor. Rhythm interpretation is not taught in a PALS class. CPR Nashville recommends that any student struggling with cardiac rhythms take the online American Heart Association course Learn Rhythm Adult.
