Every two years healthcare providers that are already certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers must renew their skills in order to maintain their certification. This is essential, as the American Heart Association is constantly doing research to improve survival rates after cardiac arrest.  Students will practice compressions and rescue breathing for infants, children, and adults. Who should take a BLS renewal class?

All students and healthcare providers that are already certified in BLS, and want to maintain their certification, should take a BLS renewal class.  Most employers in the healthcare field require their employees to be BLS certified. This class will update the provider on any changes in the rescue sequence and provide hands on practice to ensure proper technique of the healthcare provider’s skills. The BLS for healthcare providers class is for those working in healthcare or for those going to school for a position in the healthcare field such as nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, radiology technicians, laboratory technicians, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapy assistants, EMT’s, paramedics, dialysis staff, nurse practitioners, CRNA’s, anesthesiologists, and many more. Every five years the American Heart Association releases new guidelines based on the most current research. When this occurs, the steps in the BLS for healthcare provider algorithm sometimes change. Attending a BLS renewal class will renew the skills that are necessary in treating cardiac and respiratory arrest.

Course content and length:

The BLS for Healthcare Provider renewal class lasts between 3.5 and 4 hours. The time can slightly change based on how many students are in attendance. Students will be updated on any BLS algorithm changes and practice their skills using our equipment. Students will be able to operate our Defibtech AEDs and use the CPR monitors in our Preston manikins. Attendees will also get to visualize chest rise while practicing rescue breathing with a pocket mask and a bag valve mask. Below is a complete list of the skills that will be reviewed and practiced in the BLS renewal class at CPR Nashville.

This Nashville CPR class training will be delivered by experienced American Heart Association instructors who care about your success. We take our students experience seriously and want each student to walk away feeling confident in the skills they have learned. After students renew their skills, our instructors will put them in teams to perform what they have learned. At the end of the class, students will take a short, multiple question test. Finally, after students have successfully passed the skills potion and the written exam, they will be awarded with a 2 year Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification card.
